Glamping in Winter may seem like a crazy idea, but here at Lydcott Glamping it couldn’t be further from the truth.

Here are our top myth-busters, and why you should visit Lydcott Glamping in Winter.

‘The weather is bad – and you can’t go glamping in bad weather’

Agreed, the weather can be somewhat inclement during the winter months, but that doesn’t mean you need to suffer it.

Our cabins are all fully heated and well insulated so you definitely won’t be cold or uncomfortable. In fact, those guests who have had the pleasure of staying with us during the winter months always comment on how much they’ve loved being in their cabin, warm and cosy and listening to the rain on the roof, and watching the storms at sea through the windows.

We even provide books and games to keep you entertained, and if there’s anything you need at all to make your stay even more comfortable, then your wish is our command.

We actually get some of the most dramatic views during the winter months – the light and the moody skies are just stunning.

Things to do in Cornwall in Winter (pic: Colwith Distillery)

‘Everything in Cornwall is closed in Winter’

False! Yes, there may be fewer places open, or reduced hours – but if you know the inside scoop, then we can give you plenty of tips for things to do during winter in Cornwall. When you book a stay with us, we’ll send you loads of ideas and recommendations so that you can book things in advance too.

And the extra bonus – Cornwall isn’t as crowded as it is in Summer – so you get to enjoy the place even more! This also means you can use Lydcott Glamping as a base and travel further afield to visit more places across Cornwall and Devon without having to endure the Summer holiday-maker traffic.

‘We wouldn’t be able to take advantage of everything the site has to offer’

OK, so you may not get to spend as much time sunbathing on site or playing swingball – but along with all the home comforts, books, games, and sea views from inside your cabin there are even some things that are actually best experienced in Winter!

Here at Lydcott Glamping we are very lucky to be close to Bodmin Moor, the first International Dark Sky Place designation in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Not only do we have the beautiful open skies here with no light pollution nearby, but we also have peace and quiet in our gorgeous rural spot, with stunning views across the fields and to the sea.

Star-gazing opportunities are at their best in the darker spring, autumn and winter months – so why not come and experience our little slice of paradise when the stargazing opportunities are at their very best. We can even provide you with a telescope – see our ‘optional extras‘ you can add to your booking.

Noctural wildlife at Lydcott Glamping

‘The gardens won’t be as interesting’

Because the nights are longer, you have a much better chance of seeing noctural wildlife during winter. We’re so honoured to be able to say that our site is home to so much wildlife – and we’ve recently discovered that we have a number of badgers that like to visit us at night time – as evidenced by their ‘snuffle holes’ (yes that’s the actual term for it!) all over the field and up the sides of the pathways, where they have been searching for tasty midnight snacks.

For those of you who are keen to see our nocturnal visitors, we are delighted to introduce our latest optional extra – our nature spotting pack, complete with night vision binoculars. As well as badgers, you may have the good fortune to see our resident Pole Cats, Hedgehogs, Bats and nearby resident Owls.

Our gardens and landscaping are also designed so that there is year-round interest, so while the dahlias might not be out in all their splendour, there is still loads to see in and around our gorgeous site, and you’ll even find your own selection of seasonal herbs by your cabin to use in your cooking.
